I hope you all are enjoying the last of the long weekend and Easter if you celebrate (which for my family is heading out today to buy half price chocolate).
As much as I love spring, when my daffodils, tulips, and irises bloom, it also means that I have to go outside more. Which might not seem like a bad thing, but mornings are my most productive time. This is when I do 90% of my writing, editing, marketing, and all the other million things I have to do.
In winter I didn’t feel bad, sitting at my desk, but as the weather gets nicer I do feel guilty for not enjoying it or taking my kiddos to the park. And there is always work to be done in the garden, I might not be a green thumb but I do grow strawberries (my daughters favorite fruit) and plenty of flowers (which my allergies are not too happy with)
What does spring herald for you?
Writing Update
So fun news, I’m working with two book coaches! I may or may not have mentioned that I am also a book coach (currently working on my practicums to become certified) but now I am working with others to help me with The Lunar Order series.
Andrew is my world building and series coach, so we work together to flesh out the Lunar Order universe and make sure that it doesn’t have any flaws or gaping holes. But we will also start working on planning the rest of the series!
Why is that important?
It’s always good to know where you are going so that you can set up where we will end. I am sure you have read books that do this well, mine was Sarah J Maas’ Throne of Glass series where there is a scene in book 1 where Celaena learns *something* but we don’t really understand until book 6. And it was one of those moments of realization where we went “Oh shit!” when it clicked.
The planning starts at the end of April but I will give you some teasers when they come to light!
The second book coach is a fellow trainee, as I was doing all the same work a practice client was, I offered myself to another coach to go over my detailed outline for Forged In Moonlight (Book 2). We will be discussing it next weekend.
Why is an outline important?
If you know anything about writers it’s probably if they are planners or pansters. I’m a bit of both, but one thing I do know is having a strong outline helps to ensure writing goes smoother and faster. It is literally like having a blueprint for your book (pun intended as that’s the book we uses in my book coaching course)
Writing with no direction can be fun for some, as they discover the story along the way, but for me I just go on tangents that end up being cut and I don’t want to waste my time on that.
And lastly…
Book 2’s cover and blurb are currently under works! Hopefully I’ll be able to share them with you next time!
Happy Spring!

Ashes on the Earth Book One in a complete four book series, it’s a slow burn, fade to black romantic urban fantasy with lots of danger and action.
"This was a war between monsters. And I was caught in the middle."
Shapeshifters exist. Monsters are real. And no good deed goes unpunished.
Nursing student Ellie St. James didn’t mean to get involved in a war between rival gangs of shifters, but saving the life of a local mob boss’s child has dragged her into one. When Ellie’s life is threatened because of her involvement, she’s forced to go on the run, protected by Carter Ballis, head of security for the mobster’s family, and a lethal shifter himself.
Blood, fire, and warfare weren’t part of Ellie’s plans, but even if she survives, her life will never be the same. The world is more than she knew, and she’s seen too much. People capable of morphing into deadly creatures from legends and folklore around the globe are coming for her.
The cost of staying alive means trusting Carter to defend her, and he’s every bit as frightening as the creatures that want her dead…
*Mafia-romance inspired urban fantasy shifter series. Slow burn romance, a marriage of convenience, forced proximity, found family, shifters from worldwide mythology and folklore, an MMC from Greek mythology, and an emphasis on Atlantis are only a few of the elements that comprise this striking urban fantasy series. Fans of werewolf and shifter urban fantasy, paranormal mysteries and thrillers, detective stories, and even mafia romance will love this genre mix, which includes the most unique shifters you've ever seen.
